The newest Air Rescue base, located in Jasper, Texas, is open and ready to provide ACCESS. Officials said the new base, which opened on June 15, will ensure even more residents in the region will have access to lifesaving emergency medical care. The base is located on the campus of CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Jasper Memorial Hospital.

Debra Harris, RN and Trauma Coordinator at Jasper Memorial, said she is excited to have the Air Rescue crew located on the hospital’s campus.

“We are in a rural area, surrounded by rural counties,” Harris said. “As a hospital, if we had a serious trauma or cardiac patient who needed to get to a larger facility, we had to call and wait for the helicopter to get to us. To transport by ground can be and hour or two. Now, the minute we get acceptance (at a receiving hospital), we get the patient loaded. The quicker you can get them to where they need to go, the better the outcome will be. We are very excited to have Air Rescue here. It’s a win for everyone – especially the people in our rural communities.”

Air Rescue, owned and operated by Air Evac EMS, Inc., is part of the nation’s largest helicopter air ambulance provider. Crews, consisting of a flight nurse, flight paramedic and pilot, are on duty 7 days a week. Crews may respond to the scene of a medical injury or illness, and transfer patients between medical facilities.

Seth Myers, president of Air Evac Lifeteam, said he is grateful for the support of city officials, CHRISTUS Health, and first responders.

“We are proud to be a part of Jasper, and especially to work with area hospitals and EMS agencies,” Myers said.

There are three Air Rescue bases in Texas, and Air Evac Lifeteam currently operates 140 air medical bases across 15 states. For more information, please visit www.lifeteam.net/air-rescue, or like us on Facebook.
